NorthWood Baseball 10, Bremen 7
In continuing with tradition, NorthWood and Bremen came together again for the Strike Out Cancer game Saturday in Nappanee.
The two teams played in 2019, and after a year off in 2020, came back to play under the Strike Out Cancer, or K Cancer, moniker. Hosted by the Jason Motte Foundation, NorthWood and its opponents over the years have raised over $12,000 to support cancer stricken families.
Just in hat donations alone between the fourth and fifth innings, over $300 was pulled in. If you are interested in donating on behalf of NorthWood, go to Jasonmottefoundation.org and select NorthWood High School Baseball on the drop down menu.
NorthWood took control of the game itself with a four-run fourth, buoyed by RBIs from Sergio Lira Ayala, Gage Gongwer and Cole Davis.
Landon Kemp took the win for NorthWood (9-3), surrendering just two runs on two hits over three innings, striking out three. Logan Balasa and Isaiah Yoder entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief. Yoder recorded the last out to earn the save for NorthWood.
Warsaw Baseball 4, Manchester 0
Sam Justice pitched a gem Saturday morning in a shutout of the Squires.
Justice went four innings, allowing four hits, a walk and striking out four. A trio of relievers closed out a perfect three innings of relief.
Justice added two hits and an RBI at the plate, and Nico Luna had a hit and two RBI for the Tigers (5-9).
Justin Hall had a double for the Squires and Evan Martynowicz took the loss, giving up seven hits and four runs on the bump.
Huntington North Softball 13, Warsaw 2
A hot start for the Vikings was more than Warsaw could handle Saturday morning.
Reese Douglass doubled, homered and drove in five to lead the Vikings. Four other teammates had two hits, including Kianna Jennings, who homered as well.
Warsaw (7-4) managed just one hit against Maara Hendryx, who allowed just two walks and struck out five. Kendyll Landis had the hit and came around to score a run.
NorthWood Softball 18, Triton 2
Morgan Jenkins once again was a wrecking crew as the Panthers rolled in Bourbon.
Jenkins collected four more hits against the Trojans, notching her sixth triple of the season and scoring three runs. For the calendar week in four games – three of those on the road – Jenkins has 15 hits in 19 at bats (.790 batting average) and has scored 12 runs.
Kali Butler added three hits and two RBI and Ashlyn Brooke scored three times for the Panthers (5-7).
Autumn Miller went all six innings for the Panthers, allowing eight hits and striking out four.
Lena Doll had three hits for the Trojans (3-8) and Madeline Doll added an RBI double.
East Noble Softball 15, Wawasee 12
East Noble used a huge inning to break up a tie game Saturday morning in Kendallville.
Tied 8-8 going to the bottom of the sixth after Wawasee tied the game in the top half, East Noble hung a seven-spot on the board to break open the game. Wawasee got four back in the seventh before running out of bullets.
Kiaundra Olson homered for the first time this season for the Warriors (2-13-1), which had Haylee Allen add three hits and three runs scored, and Kathryn Flannery add three hits and two RBI.
The Knights had three home runs in the contest by Carly Turner, Lauren Lash and Karrah Rarick, and Lindsey Schermerhorn added two doubles and three runs driven in.
Tippecanoe Valley Softball 12, LaVille 2
South Central 18, Tippecanoe Valley 4
Valley split its two games Saturday in its home invite.
Against the Lancers, five Vikings had two hits, led by Molly Moriarty’s double and three RBI. Corinna Stiles was sterling in the circle, working six innings, giving up three hits, no earned runs and fanning 10.
A pair of big innings were too much for Valley to overcome against the Satellites in game two. South Central scored five runs in the top of the first, then hung a snowman in the third, the eight runs making it 13-2 very quickly.
Tennley Werner led the Satellites with two hits and four RBI and both Lauren Bowmar and Aubrie Hilgli homered and combined for five RBI in the win.
Kayleena Agnew and Macy Kirchenstien each had two hits, and Stiles added an RBI and stolen base for the Vikings, which dropped to 8-7 on the season after the two games.
Marian Softball 11, Grace 2

Marian powered past Grace in a pair of games at Phil Dick Field in Winona Lake.
In game one, Shelbie Stotts was 2-for-5 with two runs scored and four driven in. Kassidi Cadle had four hits and three runs scored, a homer short of the cycle. Jaden Cardoso had two hits, and Britney Young also had two hits, which drove in Cardoso twice.
In game two, Sierra Norman had the big blow in game one, crushing a grand slam for the Knights, which also had Savannah Harweger and Shelbie Stotts collect three hits and two runs scored apiece. Carly Ruiz had a solo homer for the Lancers.
Marian (43-11, 30-6 CL) had Sydney Wilson and Jaylah Guilliam earn wins in the circle while Grace (5-43, 4-26 CL) had Dori Knight and Taylor Graber take losses.
