CROMWELL — A Cromwell man was arrested for allegedly breaking into a residence and battering a woman.

Carlton Joseph Harwood, 54, 9631 E. Pixie Parkway, Cromwell, is charged with residential entry, domestic battery with a child under 16 years of age present, strangulation, and theft, all level 6 felonies; and criminal trespass and domestic battery, both class A misdemeanors.

On April 18, a Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office deputy responded to an altercation at a Cromwell residence. A child said Harwood broke into the home and battered a woman, who told the child to call the police.

According to court documents, the woman said Harwood was at the residence earlier in the day and became upset. She told Harwood to leave.

However, Harwood returned to the home a short time later, forcefully pulled a locked screen door open, and entered the residence. Harwood allegedly threw items around the home and pushed the woman onto a couch.

Harwood then put the woman in a choke hold and left the house. The woman later discovered Harwood took the keys to her Ford Edge, which was no longer at the residence.

The child witnessed Harwood enter the home and get on top of the woman. They left the residence and called law enforcement.

A short time after the altercation, Goshen Police officers found Harwood in the stolen Ford Edge.

Harwood has already been arrested and released on bond.
