WARSAW — An Etna Green woman was arrested after allegedly attempting to use counterfeit money at a Warsaw restaurant.

Carissa Marie Stafford, 30, 9157 W. 125N, Etna Green, is charged with counterfeiting, a level 6 felony.

On Feb. 3, a Warsaw Police officer responded to a report of counterfeit money being used at the Culver’s restaurant on Jalynn Street. An employee said a customer came through the restaurant’s drive-thru and provided a $50 bill to pay for food. The bill looked different when it was held up to a UV light.

Stafford was later identified as the individual who attempted to use the bill.

According to court documents, Stafford said she attempted to use the bill at a Taco Bell restaurant in Elkhart, but that it was not accepted. The responding officer discovered the bill was a $5 bill which had been washed and printed to look like a $50 bill.

Stafford has already been arrested and released on bond.
