WARSAW — An Elkhart woman was arrested for allegedly kicking a cat.
Lisa Lee Wilson, 51, 1818 Osolo Road, Elkhart, is charged with cruelty to an animal, a class A misdemeanor.
On March 17, a Warsaw Police officer responded to an animal complaint involving a cat attacking someone. Upon arrival at the scene, the officer saw Wilson sitting in the driver’s seat of a vehicle with a cat under her feet.
According to court documents, a witness said she went with Wilson to pick up the cat at a restaurant, as they bought the cat on Facebook Marketplace. The witness said the cat began to bite and scratch her while she was holding it, and then began to bite and scratch Wilson’s legs while Wilson was driving.
While the officer spoke with the witness, Wilson asked if the cat could be removed from the vehicle and the officer said she could let the cat out. The cat was underneath Wilson’s legs and wrapped in a blanket in order to keep it from biting and scratching. Wilson removed the cat from under her feet without issue and tossed the cat out of the vehicle onto the ground.
The cat remained stationary and didn’t act aggressive outside of the vehicle. Wilson forcefully kicked the cat in its upper body/head area while the cat was stationary on the ground. The witness yelled at Wilson for kicking the cat.
The cat also did not show any signs of aggression toward responding officers. Wilson was taken to a local hospital to receive medical attention for bites and scratches from the cat.
The cat’s original owner later arrived on scene and took possession of the cat.
Wilson has already been arrested and released on her own recognizance.
