WARSAW — A Warsaw woman was recently arrested for allegedly hitting a police officer and resisting arrest.

Luz Eleida Colon Perez, 48, Warsaw, is charged with battery against a public safety official, a level 6 felony; and resisting law enforcement and criminal trespass, both class A misdemeanors.

On April 23, two Warsaw Police officers responded to a trespass complaint at the McDonald’s restaurant on Jalynn Street. A restaurant supervisor said there was a large number of bags in the vestibule, noting it was a safety hazard and blocked disabled people from entering the store.

According to court documents, the supervisor learned the bags belonged to Perez, and said the restaurant had issues with Perez in the past. The supervisor asked law enforcement to trespass Perez from the restaurant.

When officers asked Perez to remove the bags and leave the restaurant, she refused to do so. As one of the officers attempted to remove her from the building, Perez allegedly used her cellphone to hit the officer’s right cheekbone.

During the struggle, Perez knocked off both officers’ body cameras and tore one of the officer’s vest carriers.

Perez was booked in the Kosciusko County Jail on April 23.
