TYNER — A South Bend man was arrested in Marshall County for allegedly failing to update his information on the state of Indiana’s sex offender registry.

Jacob Tyler Nemeth, 33, South Bend, is charged with failure to register as a sex offender with a prior conviction, a level 5 felony.

On July 30, 2023, a Marshall County Sheriff’s Department deputy received a report about Nemeth living at a residence in Tyner for over a month. The reporting individual said he learned Nemeth was a registered sex offender and had not updated his residency to Marshall County.

According to court documents, the deputy received information that Nemeth was a registered sex offender through Starke County and reported weekly through St. Joseph County as “homeless.”

On Aug. 7, 2023, deputies made contact with Nemeth at the residence in Tyner. Nemeth said he was not residing at the home and was aware of the sex offender requirements.

A man at the home said Nemeth was staying there while he was trying to find a place to live. The man said within the last 30 days, Nemeth had stayed at the home three times.

A neighbor said Nemeth had been at the residence for over four months.

Nemeth was previously convicted of failing to register as a sex offender in Starke County.

Nemeth was booked in the Marshall County Jail on April 17, 2024.
