WARSAW — “Dancing with the Stars for Charity” took place at the Warsaw Performing Arts Center in late March, featuring dance performances and a near sell-out crowd to raise money for local charities.

Nine teams, comprised of community members and staff from Warsaw Community Schools, took to the stage.

The audience was treated to an array of dance styles, from elegant ballroom to energetic hip-hop. Students in the Warsaw Community High School Dance program choreographed the performances.

More than $13,000 was raised, with 100% of all ticket proceeds donated to 11 local charities.

Among the beneficiaries, Joe’s Kids received a $1,600 donation thanks in part to its designated team winning the Mirror Ball trophy. Each of the other represented charities (American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, Cardinal Services, CASA of Kosciusko County, Combined Community Services, Kate’s Kart, Kosciusko Community Trap Neuter Return, Magical Meadows, and Wagon Wheel Center for the Arts) received a donation of $1,300. Additionally, the Warsaw Community High School dance department also received $1,300 as a token of appreciation to be used for future dance recitals.

Organizers have already begun planning the event for next year. It’s set to take place Saturday, March 29.
