LEESBURG — Ordinance violations were addressed at the Leesburg Town Council meeting held Monday, May 13.
Street Commissioner Craig Charlton said there is an ongoing issue with tall grass at a property on Smith Street. According to Charlton, this has been a problem “for the last year or two.” A warning letter has been sent, stating that if the property has not been mowed by May 20, fines will be imposed.
In addition, Charlton issued two parking violation notices and four parking warnings.
Charlton told council members there are multiple unpaid parking fines past due. Town Attorney Nick Jacobs will send letters to the residents in violation.
There are also properties that continue to be in violation of the town refuse ordinance. Council President Mitch Rader pointed out that the town will have dumpsters available during town cleanup days. If there is no improvement, fines will be imposed.
Council also scheduled town cleanup and garage sale dates for 2024. The town garage sale dates are June 7 & 8. Town cleanup dates are June 21 & 22.
In another matter, regarding the ongoing issues with USIC Locating Services reportedly failing to mark utilities, Leesburg Councilman Tom Moore said he last spoke with the company’s district superintendent on April 16. According to Moore, during that conversation, the district superintendent suggested the problem may be that USIC does not have a copy of the prints of the Leesburg sewer system. The district superintendent told Moore he would stop by to pick up a copy of the prints. Moore said he has not heard anything since that time.
In other news:
- The 2024 Leesburg Memorial Day Parade will be held Monday, May 27. Line up at 10:15 a.m., parade at 10:30 a.m. with a service to follow afterwards at the cemetery. In case of rain, service will be held at the Lions building.
- Reminders: No parking on any street in Leesburg between the hours of 3-5 a.m. This applies all seven days of the week; No burning is allowed in town.
- The next meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. June 10.
