WARSAW — Court Appointed Special Advocates of Kosciusko County has had its first recruitment event in a few years, but it won’t be its last.
CASA of Kosciusko County Executive Director Erin Rowland Jones said she hopes to have events like the one held Monday, May 13, at Warsaw Community Church, on a “quarterly” basis.
“The goal is to have at least 10 signed up for (upcoming) training (in June),” she said.
Rowland Jones noted there continues to be a need for CASAs in the county, who spend time with individual kids or sibling groups and then speak on their behalf in neglect or abuse cases.
“We continue to see more (kids) appointed to our program,” she said. “Our staff is working hard to cover those cases (that we have no CASAs to oversee).”
Rowland-Jones said plans are to have another recruitment event at Generous Coffee, 121 W. Center St., Warsaw, from 10 a.m. to noon Friday, May 24.
People may ask questions about how to become a CASA then and interact with current CASAs.
The June training will start 9 a.m. to noon Tuesday, June 4, with it continuing at that time each Tuesday-Thursday through Thursday, June 20.
