ELKHART COUNTY — Kaiden Ruff, 20, North Webster, died in a three-vehicle crash at CR 17 and SR 119, late Wednesday afternoon, May 15. The crash occurred at 4:16 p.m.
According to the investigating officer, Ruff was traveling northeast on SR 119, on a 2012 Yamaha, and disregarded a red light at the intersection. The Yamaha was struck on the right side by the front of a 2012 Chevrolet Traverse, driven by Gonzalez Gutierrez, 31, Elkhart. Gutierrez was traveling northbound on CR 17.
Ruff, who police report was not wearing a helmet, was thrown from his motorcycle and pronounced deceased at the scene. After impact the motorcycle slid through the intersection and struck the front of a 2012 Dodge Avenger, driven by Mariana Avelino, 28, Elkhart. Avelino was southbound on CR 17. She was not injured.
Gutierrez complained of pain and was taken to Goshen Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Avelino was not injured.
The investigation is ongoing by the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office.
