Roanoke Man Struck, Killed On SR 114 In Whitley County

News Release

WHITLEY COUNTY — A Roanoke man was struck and killed on SR 114 in Whitley County on Friday night, May 17.

It happened at 6:30 p.m. in the east 6500 block of SR 114.

According to preliminary investigation by the Indiana State Police, Carl W. Moehle, 83, was standing in the roadway out in front of his residence, apparently picking up trash, when a white 2009 Chrysler van crested the hill and struck him.

Evidence suggests that the driver of the van, Alison Harrison-Campbell, 39, Huntington, took evasive action and swerved left in an attempt avoid hitting Moehle. The impact caused Moehle to be thrown into a side ditch.

Moehle was pronounced dead at the scene by the Whitley County coroner.

Harrison-Campbell was fully cooperative with investigators. As required by law, she was transported to Parkview Huntington for a blood draw. Those results are pending as the crash investigation continues.

The Indiana State Police were assisted at the scene by both the Whitley County and Huntington County Sheriff’s Departments, Parkview EMS medics, the Roanoke Fire Department, the Whitley County coroner and Smith Brothers Towing Service.
