WARSAW — As the temperature rises and the school year wraps up, you might be looking for fun and free activities for your family this summer. Warsaw Community Public Library is here to help. We have many great items you can borrow from our Library of Things (“LoT”) to bring some excitement to your summer.

If your family enjoys watching movies together, consider putting together a special outdoor movie night. We have a projector you can set up to play a movie on your garage door or the side of your house. All you need to do is grab some blankets and popcorn, agree on what to watch and let the fun begin.

Maybe your family is looking to do some exploring this summer. Borrow our binoculars for birdwatching or our telescope for  stargazing. We even have two metal detectors if you want to go treasure hunting.

If you have lots of younger kids in your neighborhood, consider borrowing our parachute for a time of cooperative group play.

And let’s not forget about all our great yard games. We just added a pickleball set to the collection. For those unfamiliar, pickleball is a fast-paced paddle sport blending elements of tennis, badminton and ping pong. It’s played on a small court and is suitable for all ages and skill levels. We have a couple of games you’ve maybe never tried before: Kan Jam and Yardzee. Kan Jam is a dynamic outdoor Frisbee game where teams aim to deflect a flying disc into a barrel for points. Yardzee is a larger-than-life version of the classic dice game Yahtzee, played with oversized dice in a yard or outdoor setting. We also have the classics: cornhole, croquet, ring toss and bocce ball.

Stop by the library soon to browse these and many other items in the Library of Things. You’ll find them upstairs by the Reference Desk. To help with planning, please note that you may check out two LoT items at a time for one week. These items are renewable once as long as no one is on hold for them.

Don’t miss out on the chance to create unforgettable summer memories with your family. Visit Warsaw Community Public Library today to start planning your next adventure.
