Former Kedco Chief Tio Joins South Bend Airport As New Exec

SOUTH BEND — The St. Joseph County Airport Authority has named Alan Tio as vice president of business development for South Bend International Airport. In this position, Tio will oversee the airport’s real estate portfolio and steer its business, commercial and economic development initiatives. Tio began his new role on May 6.

Tio brings more than 15 years of experience in leadership roles with local, regional and state-level economic development organizations. Most recently, he served as chief executive officer for Kosciusko Economic Development Corp., where he was responsible for business attraction, business retention and expansion, community development, and small business and entrepreneurship efforts. Tio has also served as economic developer for Michael Kinder & Sons Inc.; senior vice president for Northeast Indiana Regional Partnership; president for Whitley County Economic Development Corp.; and project manager with the Indiana Economic Development Corp.

“I’m excited to join the SBN team in this newly created role leading business development,” said Tio. “The timing of this opportunity in my career and in the growth of the airport matches perfectly. I look forward to seeing what we can accomplish with SBN as a strategic partner in the region’s economic development initiatives.”

Tio received a bachelor’s degree in international studies from Miami University and went on to earn his master’s degree in public affairs from Indiana University School of Public and Environmental Affairs. He is a certified economic developer by the International Economic Development Council and was named to Consultant Connect’s Top 50 Economic Developers in North America in 2019. Tio is also a member of the board of directors for the Indiana Statewide Certified Development Corp. and the Northern Indiana Workforce Board.
