ELKHART — A man was recently arrested in Elkhart County for allegedly engaging in sexual activity with a child.
Mitchell Edison Mills, 22, Jacksonville, N.C.; also listed with an address of 20 EMS D21A Lane, Syracuse, is charged with two counts of sexual misconduct with a minor, both level 5 felonies.
On Aug. 21, 2022, the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office received a report about Mills inappropriately touching a child.
In an interview with law enforcement, the child said Mills engaged in sexual activity with them on Aug. 8, 2022. They also said Mills inappropriately touched them on Aug. 17, 2022.
During an interview with a detective on Sept. 22, 2022, Mills initially claimed he passed out after smoking a lot of marijuana and awakened to the child engaging in sexual activity with him.
According to court documents, later in the interview, Mills admitted to inappropriately touching and engaging in sexual activity with the child.
Mills was arrested on May 28, 2024, and has been released on bond.
