WARSAW — A Warsaw man was recently arrested on multiple charges after a vehicle pursuit with law enforcement.
Daniel Arthell Johnson, 37, 1521 E. Main St., Warsaw, is charged with possession of a narcotic drug with enhancing circumstances, a level 3 felony; unlawful carrying of a handgun and resisting law enforcement with a prior conviction, both level 5 felonies; resisting law enforcement and neglect of a dependent, both level 6 felonies; and possession of a firearm by a domestic batterer and resisting law enforcement, both class A misdemeanors.
On May 29, a Warsaw Police officer was patrolling on Center Street when he saw Johnson drive by in a vehicle. The officer had prior knowledge that Johnson had an outstanding warrant for his arrest and carried a handgun. Johnson stopped at a gas station and the officer approached Johnson’s vehicle.
According to court documents, when the officer asked him to put his hands out the window, Johnson fled the scene in his vehicle and a pursuit began. During the pursuit, Johnson disregarded stop signs and traveled at 80 mph.
Johnson then drove his vehicle off the roadway, stopped, and began fleeing the scene on foot. He was shortly apprehended by police. A woman and two children were in Johnson’s vehicle at the time of the incident.
Upon searching Johnson’s person, officers found a loaded handgun magazine and a bag containing fentanyl pills.
The woman said Johnson gave her a handgun during the pursuit. Johnson admitted to possessing a handgun during the pursuit and said the fentanyl pills found on his person belonged to him.
Johnson has prior convictions for unlawful carrying of a handgun, domestic battery, and resisting law enforcement, all from Elkhart County.
Johnson was booked in the Kosciusko County Jail on May 29.
