SILVER LAKE — The Silver Lake Town Council has approved water and sewer rate increases to cover rising infrastructure costs.
That was done at the council’s regular meeting on Wednesday, June 12.
After a public hearing at which no one from the community opted to comment, the council voted. Rates will go up in phases, with Town Clerk-Treasurer Tonya Conley previously noting that was to make it easier on residents.
People will see increases on sewer costs of 20% this year, 15% next year and 9% in 2026. On water, those rates will be 12% this year and another 12% next year.
Residents will see the first increase on their bill in September.
Community Crossings
The council also approved awarding a bid to Phend & Brown for completing paving work at East Sycamore Street.
Silver Lake received an Indiana Department of Transportation Community Crossings Matching Grant to do the work, which will cost $275,759.47.
In other business, the council:
- Heard a public hearing to tear down a house at 1008 N. Roosevelt St., will be at 5 p.m. on Monday, June 24, at the Silver Lake Town Hall. A tree had fallen on the home and a fire was recently there as well.
- Approved paying $2,910 for additional backup computer storage for the Silver Lake Police Department.
- Heard Street Superintendent Joey McNeal will see if he can help address a drainage problem by Neer Drive in Silver Lake. A resident brought that problem up at the meeting.
- Heard that the Silver Lake Fire Department’s fundraiser golf outing is 8 a.m. Sunday, June 30, at Sycamore Golf Club in North Manchester.
The council’s next regular meeting is 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 10, at town hall.
