News Release
LAGRANGE COUNTY — Starting in July and continuing through September, a group of local volunteers from Indiana Landmarks and LaGrange County Together will embark on a significant project to collect data on historical structures throughout LaGrange County. The survey is designed to update records and ensure the preservation of the county’s historical homes and buildings.
Residents may notice these volunteers as they methodically visit each historical building. Their activities will include verifying the existence of these structures, noting any conditional changes and taking photographs for documentation purposes.
LaGrange County Together Director Darci Stanner Gaff wants to assure the community that the presence of these volunteers is part of a benign effort to celebrate and maintain shared heritage.
“If you happen to have a home that is over 50 years old, you may notice our volunteers photographing or taking notes about your property. Please don’t be suspicious or alarmed, we are just documenting these homes for our inventory,” said Gaff.
Please note:
- The volunteers will not be conducting any form of tax assessment.
- The volunteers will not be asking to come on your property or inside your home.
- The purpose of the survey is purely to maintain an accurate record of LaGrange County’s historic properties.
- The data collected will contribute to the conservation and awareness of our architectural history.
LaGrange County Together officials say they appreciate the understanding and cooperation of the community as they undertake this initiative to honor and preserve the historical legacy of LaGrange County.
