WARSAW — A family of four was not injured after the garage at their residence, 2706 W. Old Road 30, Warsaw, caught fire Sunday afternoon, June 16. Old Road 30 was closed east of the fire to the CCAC area until approximately 5:30 p.m.
Warsaw Wayne Fire Territory was notified of a fully engulfed structure fire at 3:26 p.m.
Very little information was available from Warsaw-Wayne Fire Territory Battalion Chief Shade Keeney as firefighters were still checking for hot spots and investigating. He did state when he arrived it was an “active residential fire” with the “fire on the back side of the residence.”
With temperatures in the low 90s, firefighters battled the fire in their turnout gear, making it feel like over 100 degrees. There were no casualties to firefighters. Kenney noted enough manpower was available at the scene for firefighters to frequently switch out.
A full assist was provided by Winona Lake and Atwood fire departments, with engine and manpower provided by Burket Fire Department. Leesburg/Plain Township Fire Department was also called, but disregarded.
A Town & Country van was inside the garage at the time of the fire and was destroyed. Several ventilation spots were cut in the roof of the home. The extent of damage inside the home is unknown. A positive pressure fan was used to clear the smoke from the attic while firefighters continued to conduct their investigation.
Also unknown at the scene was if the family of four was at the home when the fire was reported.
Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department, Warsaw Police and Lutheran EMS also responded to the scene.
According to the county Beacon mapping system, the home is owned by Brad and April Eberly.
