PIERCETON — Jerry Kreger has filed a declaration of candidacy for a vacant Pierceton Town Council seat.
Former council member Eric Trump submitted his letter of resignation from the council on May 20, citing health issues as his reason for stepping down.
Kreger has lived in Pierceton his whole life and has prior work experience involving the town. He served 16 years as a council member and four years as the town’s clerk-treasurer. Kreger also has served two years on the town’s park board.
He graduated from Whitko High School in 1977 and from then-Manchester College with a bachelor’s degree in business administration in 1982.
Kreger also served on the Pierceton Fire Department and is a member of the Masonic Pierceton Lodge No. 377. He is a member of the Kosciusko County Shrine Club and helps transport kids to Shriners Hospitals for Children.
During his previous service on the council, Kreger said there were several infrastructure projects the council completed, including the senior center and addressing a dilapidated gas station.
He emphasized the importance of the town’s council members working really well together and supporting the town’s park board, youth league, and employees. Kreger also said he was proud of the previous council’s work regarding tax increment finance districts and wants to focus on listening to citizens’ concerns.
Chauncey Smith and Gregory Chism have also filed declarations of candidacy.
The caucus to fill the vacancy on the Pierceton Town Council will be at 6 p.m. Thursday, June 20, in the Pierceton Town Council Chamber. The voting caucus will be eligible Republican Precinct Committee members of Washington Township, who have served 30 days prior to the date of the caucus. Those members are precinct committeemen Frank Rhoades, Tom Pletcher and vice precinct committeeman Mike Miner, a proxy by precinct committeewoman Gloria Miner.
