NORTH WEBSTER — Purdue Extension Kosciusko County Health & Human Science Educator Shannon Shepherd will be presenting a “Block Party” program at North Webster Community Public Library from 1-2 p.m. Monday, June 24.
A block party is provided to engage parents/guardians in block play with their children. The goal is for families to continue block play at home. A block party consists of five stations with different types of blocks, and the children and their parents rotate through the different stations that focus on different areas of development.
Blocks use a child’s own action for learning skills, with adult support, in the areas of math, science, literacy — pre-reading and language, social and physical — gross and fine motor development.
Parenting skills are further developed at a block party through demonstrations and guided practice. In the block party programs, adults learn to guide children’s early learning experiences and use blocks as tools to support a child’s development.
