COLUMBIA CITY — Seeing the need to bridge the digital divide for all ages, business owners in Whitley County have come together to form a new not-for-profit, The TechBridge Initiative. The mission includes offering hands-on learning with technology through education and training.

“I’m a business owner and also a father and I’ve seen the options that are offered in our area for our kids,” said Ryan Gable, board president. “Sports are great and they teach valuable lessons, but there’s more to life than sports. That’s where this organization comes in. Technology has such a foothold in our daily lives. We need to prepare our kids for those opportunities and challenges as well.”

“Additionally, everyone can benefit from an increased knowledge of internet security and best practices in the latest technologies,” said Gable. “Our programs aren’t only for the younger generation but all generations. All ages benefit from staying in tune with technology.”

TechBridge is gearing up its summer and fall programming for people of all ages. Programs offered for a fee include Teen Tech, How to Stay Safe Online, Learn to Code Your Own Video Game and soon, a MakerSpace.

The organization is accepting laptop and other device donations to help launch the MakerSpace. It is also accepting monetary donations and looking for volunteers.
