WINONA LAKE — Winona Lake Town Council approved a municipal services agreement Tuesday, June 18, for the street department.

Town Manager Craig Allebach said it was an agreement based on recommendations from the State Board of Accounts, which authorizes the Street Department to make purchases. It also states those purchases are town property.

Town attorney Adam Turner said he put the word materials in the agreement to cover things like salt for roads.

Councilwoman Ashley McGinnis asked if there was a cap on the purchase amount for the street department. Turner said he believed it was $2,500.

Allebach said the town has had a problem in the past where workers will bring in personal tools. Instead of trying to sort out if tools are the personal property of the worker or town property, Allebach also said the amendment states any materials the department uses is assumed to be the town’s property. This is to help prevent any future issues.

In other business, the council:

• Tabled a decision adopting internal controls for town committees and will take it into consideration at the council’s work session at 5 p.m. Tuesday.

• Approved establishing a fire department electric vehicle plug grant fund.
• Heard from Jo Faulkner, who asked if Winona Lake had a leash ordinance. Allebach said he believes the town does.

• Heard about Winona Happenings.

At 8 a.m. Saturday, the Breakfast Optimist Triathlon will be at Limitless Park.

At 10 a.m. June 29, the myTeam Triumph 5k will be at the park.

At 8 p.m. June 29, the Symphony of the Lake concert will be at Miller Sunset Pavilion. At 10 p.m. June 29, there will be fireworks over Winona Lake.
