WARSAW — We are now in our third week of the Summer Reading program at Warsaw Community Public Library, with more than 1 million pages already read. Let’s keep the momentum going with some adventurous new reads for kids.

“Rumie Goes Rafting” by Meghan Marentette is a nature-inspired story that follows little Rumie, whose curiosity is sparked by seeing a ladybug floating on a leaf. Rumie wants to build a raft to follow the water’s twists and turns. Little ones can build their anticipation for
a journey along with Rumie as he gathers found items for his raft. But what happens when the excitement of a voyage overpowers the  patience of the traveler? Readers will be inspired to venture outside and start their own collection of found objects after seeing how the author uses ribbons, bark and shells to create little Rumie’s world.

Who else thinks “National Treasure,” starring Nicholas Cage, is a comfort movie? Just me? Well, for my fellow history lovers and treasure-hunting friends out there, try the first book in a new series, “National Archive Hunters: Capitol Chase” by Matthew Landis. The author, a middle school history teacher near Philadelphia, uses his knowledge to build a mystery with plenty of historical facts and mysterious intrigue to draw readers of “City Spies” and “Alex Rider” to his new series. Twins Ike and Iris Carter must follow the clues after a series of robberies in Washington, D.C., point the authorities toward their family as the culprits. Can they find the thief and prove their family is being framed before the real villain escapes? Find out in this Junior Library Guild Gold Standard Selection.

We’ve looked toward history and nature, and now it’s only fair we add some supernatural to the list. Check out “Cursed Cruise” by Victoria Fulton and Faith McClaren to add a little fright to your nightly read. The Ghost Gang is building a following online after their first investigation at “Horror Hotel” went viral. They hope to record evidence of the paranormal and add more subscribers to their online videos when they are invited to record aboard the RMS Queen Anne. Then, one of the group members goes missing, and the Ghost Gang must band together to communicate with the otherworldly spirits to get their friend back. They may just catch a murderer in the process.
