News Release

MILFORD — Camels will visit the Milford Public Library at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 26. The program will take place in the library’s parking lot behind the building. The camels are from River Jordan Camel Dairy, just outside of Milford. What do camels eat? How long do camels live? What is that hump for anyway? Come with the whole family and meet Jericho and Jasmine and find out for yourself.

Free Lunch

The Wawasee School Corporation and the Department of Agriculture will once again provide free lunches for children ages preschool through 18 years old in the Milford community. This year you may come and pick up a lunch and take it home to eat. If you would like to stay at the library and picnic, they do have a couple of tables available donated by Polywood. Feel free to bring a blanket to sit on and share lunch with your friends. The school bus will be in the library’s parking lot from 11-11:30 a.m. Your child may still get lunch and breakfast even if they choose not to participate in the Library’s Summer Reading Program. The library is just providing a place for everyone to come to for lunch. This is a wonderful program so please support it by getting free lunches for your children. Breakfasts are also available to take home for the next morning.

Guest Storyteller

Angie Deak is the guest storyteller at 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 28. Weather permitting, the program will be held behind the library in the parking lot. The story time book is “On the Nature Trail.” This book is a hands-on field guide to all kinds of things you would find on a nature walk. Leaves are identified as are birds, insects, animal tracks and flowers. The book even comes with a small magnifying glass so you can examine things up-close. The craft will be making a tic-tac-toe game from items found in nature, a slice of a tree’s trunk and rocks as game pieces. You can paint the rocks any way you choose — two colors, two insects, two flowers or even x’s and o’s. Family Story Time is for all ages and free to everyone attending.

Last Friday, June 21, Pat Reuter was the guest storyteller. She talked about the book “Redwall: The Graphic Novel” by Brian Jacques. This is the first book in the classic Redwall epic. Welcome to Mossflower Wood, where the gentle mice have gathered to celebrate a year of peace and abundance. All is well until a sinister shadow falls across the ancient stone abbey of Redwall. There are rumors that Cluny is coming — Cluny, the terrible one-eyed rat and his savage horde — Cluny, who has vowed to conquer Redwall Abbey. The only hope for the besieged mice lies in the lost sword of the legendary Martin, the warrior.

This is the beginning of the epic quest of a bumbling young apprentice, Matthias, a courageous mouse who will rise up, fight back and become a legend himself. They hope all the families attending the story time make time to read the book this summer. Everyone made their own shield to take in to battle against Cluny and his mighty army of rats.
