AKRON — A GoFundMe has been established for an Akron man who was seriously injured in a single-vehicle accident west of Silver Lake.

Around 9:50 p.m. Monday, June 17, Jacob L. Eherenman, 22, Akron, was traveling north on CR 600W in a 2008 Chevrolet Silverado. He was unable to maintain his lane of travel for an unknown reason, causing his vehicle to leave the roadway and hit a tree.

Eherenman was flown to Lutheran Fort Wayne after the accident. As of Thursday, June 20, Eherenman is still in the hospital’s ICU unit.

Lacey Manns, a close family friend, created the GoFundMe to assist Jacob’s parents, Veronica and Stuart, with Jacob’s medical bills. According to the GoFundMe, Jacob’s parents will be his primary caretakers until he is fully recovered.

Jacob will also be undergoing at least six months of surgeries.

“Jacob is a smart and hardworking young man who has a passion for working on vehicles,” states the GoFundMe. “He loves to hunt and fish; his injuries will be life-changing for the sports he loves. Jacob also donated his time to the local high school to coach the wrestling team. Jacob also has a big heart for all his friends, who have also been by his bedside everyday.”

An update posted to the GoFundMe on June 24 states one of Jacob’s legs was amputated below the knee.

“This was not a decision that his family took lightly,” stated Manns in the update. “They discussed all options with Jacob’s wonderful orthopedic surgeon and spent a lot of time praying and discussing this decision.”

As of June 25, the GoFundMe has raised $4,300 and has a $30,000 goal.
