WARSAW — A Warsaw man was arrested for allegedly battering a pregnant woman.

Phillip Lorence Konieczny, 37, 1114 N. Penny Drive, Warsaw, is charged with domestic battery resulting in bodily injury to a pregnant woman, a level 5 felony; domestic battery resulting in moderate bodily injury, a level 6 felony; and domestic battery, a class A misdemeanor.

On June 7, an Indiana State Police trooper and Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office deputy responded to a report of a woman being battered in Warsaw. Upon arrival, officers spoke with a woman who had blood on her chest, neck, and fingers. The officers noticed the woman had a severe laceration on the left side of her head.

According to court documents, the woman said Konieczny headbutted her and left the scene prior to officers’ arrival. The woman was five months pregnant at the time.

The woman said she was sitting on a motorcycle when Konieczny attempted to take her phone. During this, the woman’s hand hit the motorcycle’s left mirror, damaging it.

Konieczny allegedly grabbed the woman’s wrists, punched her head, and headbutted her.

In an interview with law enforcement, Konieczny said he argued with the woman because she would not let him leave. When officers asked him about a bump on his forehead, Konieczny said the woman headbutted him and he headbutted her back. He also said the woman tried to rip the motorcycle’s seat and wiring for the left turn signal.

Konieczny has already been arrested and released on his own recognizance.
