SYRACUSE — There’s still time to register for the first ever color run to be held Saturday, June 29 at South Shore Village.

Registration for the fun run/walk starts at 8 a.m. with the run starting at 9 a.m.

Ashley Dillon, executive director of the Syracuse-Wawasee Chamber of Commerce, explained the event is just an effort to bring the community together for some fun. She hopes the 5K/1 mile run/walk will become an annual event.

At press time, Dillon had approximately 60 participants registered. Dillon is working with Brian Shepherd, principal at Ligonier Elementary School and former boys cross country coach for West Noble High School, on the race.

The event will be held at South Shore Village with participants using private trials that run through the property. “They’re really nice,” Dillon said.

She said one reason for using the trails is they’re private and off the road, so participants don’t have to worry about contending with traffic.

Jeff Dyson, co-owner of South Shore Village, said in an email the trails are approximately 3 feet wide and wind throughout the former South Shore Golf Course. Although the trails are not open to the public, they can be used for special events such as the color run with permission from South Shore Village.

Proceeds from the run will go towards operating expenses for the chamber of commerce.

Prizes will be awarded in all categories. The run is kid friendly. DJ Vinny V will be on hand spinning tunes to keep everyone in a fun mood.

Sponsors for the event include Hospitality Depot, South Shore Social, Encore-Sotheby’s International Realty Layne Team, Tippecanoe Lake County Club, The Papers, Eastlund Funeral Home, Dynamic Landscaping, Making Moves with Kerri Patrick, CS Portables and DJ Vinny V, Also Dynamic Floral, Oakwood Resort, Stillwater Hospice, Teghtmeyer Ace Hardware, Re/Max Partners in Syracuse, Rabb Water
