Two Lapaz Residents Arrested Following Marshall County Drug Task Force Raid

LAPAZ — Two Lapaz residents were arrested following a drug raid led by the Marshall County Drug Task Force.

On Wednesday, May 29, the Marshall County Drug Task Force, assisted by Net43, Lapaz Police, Marshall County Sheriff’s Department, Plymouth Police and Indiana State Police, executed a search warrant in the 100-block of Hudson Street in Lapaz.

During the operation, officers recovered evidence of suspected methamphetamine and methamphetamine use within the home, as well as a firearm. A child was also removed from the home by the Indiana Department of Child Services.

Officers arrested Kathleen Elizabeth Burkett, 38, Lapaz for possession of methamphetamine, maintaining a common nuisance and neglect of a dependent. She was incarcerated at the Marshall County Jail and given a $1,500 cash bond.

Officers also arrested Michael Lee Heims, 53, Lapaz for possession of methamphetamine, maintaining a common nuisance and neglect of a dependent. He was incarcerated at the Marshall County Jail and given a $1,500 cash bond.

Readers are reminded that charging information supported by an affidavit of probable cause is merely an allegation that a crime has been committed and that there is only probable cause to believe a crime has been committed. They are presumed innocent throughout the proceedings and are entitled to be represented by counsel and entitled to a trial by jury at which the State is obligated to provide proof beyond a reasonable doubt before a judgment of guilt may be made.
