Two Arrested In Marshall County On Drug, Neglect Charges

LAPAZ — More details have been released on the arrest of two people in LaPaz after officers found drug paraphernalia inside a residence.

Kathleen Elizabeth Burkett, 38; and Michael Lee Heims, 53, both of 100 Hudson St., LaPaz, are each charged with neglect of a dependent and maintaining a common nuisance, both level 6 felonies; and possession of paraphernalia, a class C misdemeanor.

On May 29, officers with the Marshall County Drug Task Force, with assistance from numerous police agencies, executed a search warrant at a home in LaPaz. Upon entering the home, officers found Heims, Burkett, and a young child.

Upon searching the home, officers found used drug paraphernalia.

Both Heims and Burkett admitted to owning the drug paraphernalia. Burkett also told officers they had been using drugs in the home.

According to court documents, Burkett has several meth-related arrests and prior convictions for meth possession and maintaining a common nuisance. Heims has a prior conviction for possessing meth.

Burkett and Heims were both booked in the Marshall County Jail on May 29.
