WARSAW — The Kosciusko Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for Uppercut Prime Meats and Grilling Supplies in Warsaw on Friday, June 7.

The new business, owned by couple Steve and Tina Hughes, specializes in meat and grill products. It is located in The Center Centre shopping plaza at 3163 E. Center St.

Tina said their business plan started when Steve started competing in Steak Cookoff Association events in 2019. Shortly after Steve began participating in SCA events, Tina followed suit.

Steve and Tina both have won several awards at the events they’ve competed at.

“Along the way, we met all of these people who created all these rubs and seasonings, very good people, very good product,” said Tina.

The couple began selling rubs and seasonings online in 2023, and then decided to open a storefront. Uppercut Prime Meats sells meats, rubs, seasonings, smokers and assorted grilling products. Meat selections will include steak, pork, chicken and brats.

The Hughes said their goal with the store is to bring good meat to the community at affordable prices.

There will be a grand opening celebration at Uppercut Prime Meats and Grilling Supplies from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, June 8. Marc Siemers with Prime Time Spices and Aaron Norris with Tribal Fire Grills will be doing demo cooks from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. There will also be door prizes, gift certificate giveaways, popcorn and cupcakes.

Uppercut Prime Meats and Grilling Supplies is open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays, and will more than likely be open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sundays as well.

Uppercut Prime Meats will also host a steak cook-off on Oct. 4 and 5, with the competition benefiting Riley Children’s Hospital. The event is an SCA world championship qualifier, with cooks from all over the United States competing. Sign-ups are available online.
