SOUTH WHITLEY —Georgia M. Tenney has filed for reelection on the Whitko Community Schools Board of Trustees.
The board has three seats up for election: Districts 1, 2 and 3. Filing began Friday, May 24 and will run through noon, Thursday, June 20.
Tenney, an incumbent, filed for the District 1 seat. She has served on the board for 12 years, and this would be her fourth and final term. Before her three terms, Tenney was the secretary at Whitko Middle School for 33 years.
When asked why she is running, Tenney responded, “Two words: institutional knowledge.”
She went on to describe the importance of having experience with the schools in order to gain a deep understanding of the scope of the role and the processes of the board.
Tenney also spoke about community involvement and the difficulty finding someone for the role.
She said, “I hope someone else files. The other two incumbents haven’t yet. We need people to run, and if they run against me, that’s fine. I want to be here, but it’s important for people to have options.”
Tenney was presented the Woman of the Year award in Kosciusko County in January of this year.
“That something,” Tenney commented, “because people have noticed Pierceton working hard and being a community. Part of Whitko is all the towns being a community. I’m proud of that.”
Currently Lyn Studebaker represents District 2 and Annette Arnold represents District 3, but neither have filed.
